Exploring Creative Photography In Lockdown & Admitting I Lost Myself

March 30th, the day the UK went into Lockdown. No work, no shopping, no seeing family or friends. We were in the peak of a global pandemic and we’re still in it…

For some people this was a nightmare, for others it gave them an open window (not literally of course) to a world of creativity they always had but lost. Over the years I found that I had fallen in to the dark whole that is… well, the same as everybody else. My photography and content became lack lustre, I lost the personality I once had in photos and to be honest, I just stopped enjoying it. I became the same as the 100 million other content creators or “influencers” on social media, I blended in to the background and I hated that.

Suit Up With Burton Menswear | 1904 Collection | OOTD

Burton Menswear 1904 Collection
Burton Menswear 1904 Collection

How else can I put this? – Burton Menswear have created possibly one of the most stunning ranges, the 1904 Collection. This collection is made up of classic styled three-piece suits, Sharp blazers, prints, chinos and T-shirts. They are an invention of modern favourites but with eye catching attention to detail which is sure to turn heads this season. The quality is incredible and the fit superb. In my opinion the style and classic look to some of the pieces rival a collection from Reiss, but without the hefty price tag.

Don’t believe me? – Then just look at this absolutely drop dead blumming amazing three-piece Suit that I was kindly given.

National Railway Museum|Wang Fuchun – The Invisible Photographer Exhibition|York

National Railway Museum - Wang Fuchun - York - Tom Sheard

Early last week I was invited to something pretty special. This wasn’t the usual kind of event that I am usually asked to attend so I jumped at the chance. This one was different, hosted in one of the most beautiful locations – The National Railway Museum in York which is completely unique and unlike anywhere you will ever see.

Wang Fuchun - York National Railyway Museum.

This reason this event was hosted here was because there was a true enigma in town. A man who is a masterpiece within his own field. A brave man who has travelled on trains in China as “The Secret Photographer” for over 40 years. Wang Fuchun had arrived in the UK for the second time to open the Railway Museum’s newest exhibition – One Billion Journeys…

“It’s Easy Being A Social Media Influencer”|My Story, Told Honestly|Leeds

Tom Sheard - Social Media Influencer. Instagram

“It’s easy being a Social Influencer”, ” I could do that”, “Anybody can just take a picture and upload it to instagram”, “Influencers are just freeloaders!”.

Ok, so some of that it true. Yes, you could do it yourself and yes anybody can take a photo and upload it to Instagram. The thing is, that isn’t the point, and it’s not why i’m writing this either. Time and time again I am hearing the same things from people who just don’t understand what it takes to create worthwhile content and the commitment that is needed to become a successful influencer. This isn’t really a how to guide, but it’s something I’d like to discuss honestly delving into some of what goes on behind the camera.
