March 30th, the day the UK went into Lockdown. No work, no shopping, no seeing family or friends. We were in the peak of a global pandemic and we’re still in it…

For some people this was a nightmare, for others it gave them an open window (not literally of course) to a world of creativity they always had but lost. Over the years I found that I had fallen in to the dark whole that is… well, the same as everybody else. My photography and content became lack lustre, I lost the personality I once had in photos and to be honest, I just stopped enjoying it. I became the same as the 100 million other content creators or “influencers” on social media, I blended in to the background and I hated that.

“It’s Easy Being A Social Media Influencer”|My Story, Told Honestly|Leeds

“It’s easy being a Social Influencer”, ” I could do that”, “Anybody can just take a picture and upload it to instagram”, “Influencers are just freeloaders!”.

Ok, so some of that it true. Yes, you could do it yourself and yes anybody can take a photo and upload it to Instagram. The thing is, that isn’t the point, and it’s not why i’m writing this either. Time and time again I am hearing the same things from people who just don’t understand what it takes to create worthwhile content and the commitment that is needed to become a successful influencer. This isn’t really a how to guide, but it’s something I’d like to discuss honestly delving into some of what goes on behind the camera.
